CASA of El Paso

Welcome to Voz de los Niños, our e-newsletter designed to keep you in the know for all things CASA!

Happy Father's Day!

This Sunday, June 16th is Father's Day.  Happy Father's Day to all our dads.  We hope you have a wonderful day!

"I'm a father, that's what matters most.  Nothing matters more."

-Gordon Brown

Welcome, Leonard!

CASA of El Paso is proud to welcome our newest volunteer supervisor, Leonard Giron. He has been a CASA volunteer for three years and is ready to take on the responsibility of volunteer supervisor.

In his words "I am the proud father of three and grandfather to two who I spoil whenever I can. I have been fortunate to have worked over 30 years in the field of social work. I hold a Bachelor of Arts Degree from UTEP and a Master of Science in Social Work from UT. I have volunteered with CASA of El Paso and the Office of the Texas Attorney General. I look forward to continuing to serve the children and families of El Paso County."

Volunteer Spotlight

This month we'd like to shine the spotlight on Aurora Gutierrez!  In her almost five years of service to CASA of El Paso, Aurora has exemplified all the qualities that one would like to see in an extraordinary CASA volunteer. She approaches each case with objectivity and tenacity.  Aurora works her cases with compassion, good judgment, and professionalism.  She visits her kids regularly and has always built great rapport with all the children she has represented. We are truly blessed to have Aurora!

Good News for Texas' Foster Children!

Governor Perry recently signed into law both HBs 915 and 1227 which focus on improving conditions for  foster children in Texas. HB 915 monitors the prescription and usage of psychotropic medicine for foster children. HB 1227 gives CASA volunteers better access to their appointed foster child's information. We are so appreciative of legislative support for our foster children, specifically local representatives Naomi Gonzalez and Marisa Marquez who were co-presenters of HB 915. We are lucky to have such support in Austin!

 CASA of El Paso Donors

A big thank you to the donors listed on the left. We couldn't do this without you!

Thank you for your interest in and support of CASA of El Paso.  Without community support, it would be impossible to reach our goal of serving more of the foster children in El Paso.  Later this week, we will begin our next training class and will be 12 advocates closer to reaching our goal! As always, please contact us if you or someone you know would be interested in becoming a volunteer!
